Dear friends,

If we can have 5 minutes of your time, we’d like to share with you a campaign that was started at the “Breaking Through – Youth in the World of New Media” Training in Czech Republic, last week, organized by NO LABEL PROJECT. This campaign is about security online, discrimination, how to behave online, copyright, etc.

We have honour to inform you that this year for the fifth time Mitrovcia Summer University 2010 will be organized! Therefore, we are looking for highly motivated students who want to participate in the MSU 2010 and to once more make it an unforgettable experience. Please apply online if you want to come again. We also would like to ask you to spread the word about MSU and invite all of your friends to apply for Winter University!

The 5th edition of the Mitrovica Summer University will be held between 16th July and 31st July 2010. Continuing with the original format, the program for MSU 2010 will bring together local and international professors and students, providing an opportunity to learn and share experiences. During the Mitrovica Summer University 2010 six courses will take place on the following topics:

Cultural Heritage
Slavistic Studies
Diplomacy and Communication
European Integrations and Western Balkans
Marketing in Digital Age
Sustainable Architecture

All courses will be taught by local and international professors and will be in English. Successful participants will gain an official Certificate of the Mitrovica Summer University which includes between 3 and 4 ECTS credits.

The two-week courses are organized together with cultural excursions and a recreational program. In addition, public discussions, lectures and other interactive events on prominent issues in society will take place. Therefore, the MSU offers you a unique opportunity to expand your academic knowledge and skills in different fields of study, while enjoying an exciting international atmosphere.

Lectures and classes are tuition free for all students. Participants who study in Mitrovica and students from South East Europe can apply for a scholarship, which covers accommodation and food. In addition, they will receive a one-time stipend covering their travel costs. International students from Western Europe and beyond are welcome to participate, but have to cover the cost of participation, i.e. travel, accommodation and food, themselves. However, they will not be charged a tuition fee. For these participants, accommodation is provided at a modest price for the entire duration of the MSU (approximately €150)

Youth In Action: Action 3: Call for proposals – May 17th, 2010

Call for proposals aiming to support projects which promote cooperation in the youth sector between Programme Countries and Partner countries other than those which are neighbours of the European Union.

The cooperation is addressed to persons working in the youth sector, youth workers and youth leaders, young people themselves and other actors involved in youth organisations and structures and interested in running projects promoting cooperation in this field.
Deadline for submission of applications: 17 May 2010 (date of the postmark being conclusive)
Projects must start between 1 November 2010 and 31 December 2010
Duration minimum 6 months and maximum 12 months

EVS we can – Contact Making Seminar

Dear LGS member/visitor,

Let’s Get Started this past week has attended the ‘EVS we can’ Contact Making Seminar in Verona, Italy which informed young people and youth workers about the European Voluntary Service also known as Action 2 and helped them build a partnership between each other to implement future EVS projects. This CMS also informed the participants about the process of accreditation that includes sending & hosting volunteers and also coordinate evs projects. We had the chance to see how a long term activity was implemented and also the outcome of it. At the end of the seminar the participants came up with four projects that may be perfected and implemented in the near future.

Europe is MORE than you think Award

Young journalists, photographers and videographers are invited to compete for eight prizes in the ‘Europe is More Than You Think’ Award 2009, organised jointly by the Council of Europe and the European Youth Press, the network of young media-creators.

We want journalists, photographers and videographers who share our values, to look beyond the headlines which dominate the common understanding of Europe – big government, international finance and trade agreements – and capture the Europe which, all too often, goes unnoticed.

Our challenge to young media specialists is to cut through the stereotypes and received opinion of what Europe is, to show what Europe really stands for and what it means to be European in the 21st century.

For 60 years, the Council of Europe has promoted human rights, democracy and the rule of law. As an international institution, it has sought to bring a human touch to the European agenda, working, for example, to stop the death penalty, improve economic and social rights, safeguard the quality of medicines and end discrimination in all its forms.

The award is open to residents of Council of Europe member states, with the most important rule being that entrants must be aged between 18 and 27. The closing date for submissions is 6 December 2009.

The top submissions will be announced in December 2009. The first prize winners in each of the four categories will receive a 4-day paid visit to Strasbourg, France, to attend and report on the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which takes place on 26-30 January 2010. Second and third prizes are Software packages by Adobe and books.
